Stem Cell Use in Injuries Stem cell research in the past few decades has seen great expansion, as more scientists and researchers have begun to experiment with the capabilities of stem cells. As a result, we understand stem cells and their capabilities is much better than in the past. Stem cells have the potential to develop into any type of cell, making them unique to other types of cells. When they divide and produce new cells, the daughter cells can remain as stem cells or develop into a specialized cell, such as a red blood cell or a skin cell. These special properties allow for their usage in treating diseases or repairing damaged tissues in the body (Introduction: What Are Stem Cells, and Why Are They Important). For this reason, many are looking to use stem cells to treat injuries, particularly brain or spinal cord damage.A large population is in support of using stem cells in injuries to help with the healing process, but there are some still against it. It is reasonable to use stem cells in injuries, as research shows that they not only help with the healing process of the injury, and will also help scientists better understand the capabilities of stem cells. Stem cells can come from an embryo or an adult cell, and thus there are two types of stem cells: embryonic and adult stem cells.
